The fortress at Kalutara

"The fortress at Kalutara was first constructed by the Portuguese in 1622 and was surrendered to the Dutch in 1655."
"This fort was later enlarged by the conquering Dutch with the addition two bastions. Very little of it remains and today the famous Kalutara Temple lies on this ground.

RNAS Katukurunda, Kaluthara (HMS Ukussa) ~ 1945
"Originally established as a Royal Naval Air Station in 1944 by the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy, it was the largest Royal Naval Air Station, staffed by 300 Officers, 3000 sailors and 100 women from the Women's Royal Naval Service at it's peak. It serviced more than 100 aircraft at any given time whilst maintaining at aircraft repair yard"
